LIVES CHANGED ON THE STREETS OF PORTLAND7:23

Over 250 people received salvation in downtown Portland, Oregon in just the last 2 months.

Portland was on the news as one of the most godless cities in America. But not for long. We have been seeing addicts set free, women walking out of the strip clubs, and gang members getting saved, clean, and preaching on the same corners they used to run.

We have about 30 days to secure a building near Pioneer Square and PSU campus, so the people getting saved on these streets don’t walk away alone. They have a place to get baptized, discipled, and sent back out.

Help us establish a mission base in the heart of the city.

Gang member, dealer, addictBack on the same streets, talking about God
“I used to be a gang member. I used to sell drugs, use drugs. I was a part of that society that didn’t care. Ungodly. I was not a good person, I was lost. Since I’ve come to Walk After Christ, I found myself in a way I never thought imaginable. I have a job today, I’m married, and not only do I come from the streets, we go out in the same streets and talk about God.”

Why now

We have to be out of our current building now

A packed Sunday morning at Walk After Christ
Our current building

Right now our lease is almost up on our current building, and we are being asked to leave very soon. God has opened up an incredible opportunity: a new home in downtown Portland near Pioneer Square and PSU campus, right in the middle of the harvest. Thousands of people walk past its doors every day, many of them the very ones we meet on the streets every week during our outreaches.

This is the kind of building a church prays for and rarely finds, but we need immediate help to secure it. The down payment is due in weeks, not years.

A letter from our pastors
Joshua and Chelsea Shaw
Pakistan mission tripJoshua & Chelsea ShawPastors, Walk After Christ

Dear Friend,

You’ve just met a few of the people God has set free in Portland. Before we planted Walk After Christ, we served for 10 years as mission pastors and itinerant ministers, carrying the Gospel to Africa, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico, and beyond. In 2019, God gave us a mandate to do the same here and to treat Portland as our mission field. Since then, we’ve seen over 3,000 people give their lives to Jesus in this city.

In just the last 2 months, over 250 people have given their lives to Jesus. The harvest is more ripe than ever, and people are hungry for hope and a new life. We need a place to bring them into. We have to leave our current building, and God has opened the door to this incredible opportunity. This building is near Pioneer Square and PSU campus. To secure it, we need a $700,000 down payment by November 11, 2026.

“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few.” Matthew 9:37

Every week, our teams go into the streets to share the Gospel. And those who go and those who send share equally in the reward. Your gift keeps us going and helps to make an eternal impact.

I’m asking you to pray about standing with us in this. Would you prayerfully consider a gift that would establish a permanent mission center in downtown Portland, right where the harvest is?

With gratitude,

Joshua & Chelsea Shaw

The building

A mission center in the heart of the city

The building sits near Pioneer Square and PSU campus, steps from the busiest corner in Portland.

Location is everything. The streets where people are getting saved are the streets this building sits on.

The building near Pioneer Square in downtown Portland

We’ve invited many people who just gave their lives to Jesus to our church across town, and then we never see them again; it’s simply too far from where we met them...

Instead of asking them to drive somewhere they’ve never been, we’ll be a permanent presence in the middle of the harvest: a place to encounter Jesus, be discipled, and be sent back out, with the city’s busiest square right outside.
